A few weeks ago we sent you an alert letting you know that the American Humanist Association had worked with Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) to introduce the Darwin Day resolution, H. Res. 548, in the House of Representatives for the fifth time since 2011. This resolution honors the legacy of Charles Darwin and the contributions of modern scientists to humanity, and also:
• States that evolution “provides humanity with a logical and intellectually compelling explanation for the diversity of life on Earth”
• Demands that the “advancement of science be protected from those unconcerned with the adverse impacts of global warming and climate change”
• Confirms that the “teaching of creationism in some public schools compromises the scientific and academic integrity of the United States’ education systems”
I’m proud to let you know that a similar resolution, S. Res. 337, has now been introduced in the Senate by Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) thanks to the Secular Coalition of America, of which the AHA is a member organization.
The AHA and SCA are proud to work together in order to maximize the lobbying impact of nontheists, but we need your help if these resolutions are to have a chance at passing Congress. Can you take a moment right now to contact your Senators and ask them to co-sponsor the Darwin Day resolution?
